AS HISTORY SPINS IN CIRCLES AND THE REALITY OF WAR DRAWS NEARER

"Frustrated by recent political setbacks, tea party leaders and some conservative members of the Oklahoma Legislature say they would like to create a new volunteer militia to help defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements on state sovereignty.

Tea party movement leaders say they've discussed the idea with several supportive lawmakers and hope to get legislation next year to recognize a new volunteer force. They say the unit would not resemble militia groups that have been raided for allegedly plotting attacks on law enforcement officers.

"Is it scary? It sure is," said tea party leader Al Gerhart of Oklahoma City, who heads an umbrella group of tea party factions called the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance. "But when do the states stop rolling over for the federal government?"

This is the next and most logical step for those that support the intent and clear meaning of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution. I've written about this many times before in an attempt to help people understand exactly what state sovereignty entails.

The Bill of Rights was written to calm the fears of the Anti-Federalists (Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, et al) that the Constitution, in replacing the Articles of Confederation, was going to grant too much power to the Federal Government, reducing the people and the states to subjects. The Second Amendment and the Tenth are inextricably linked in their purpose and intent to defend the sovereignty of the people and the states from a coercive and overbearing central government.

As we see more and more states begin to attempt to exercise their Constitutional powers under the Tenth Amendment they must either prepare to defend those powers with the means allowed for by our founders or abandon their efforts. Because, if the states think that the federal government is going to allow them to reestablish their sovereign authority over it may I remind you of the last time they tried this? Yesterday was the 149th anniversary of the firing on Fort Sumter after the U.S. government refused to recognize the sovereignty of South Carolina and attempted to resupply the fort, forcing South Carolina to defend it's border and plunging the nation into war.

While Oklahoma may be the first to consider the use of citizen militias to defend its sovereignty, if this push for Tenth Amendment rights continues, it won't be the last. I fully support the states in their attempt to reestablish their sovereignty and through this to protect the rights of their citizens. I just hope they have considered the outcome and what will be asked of them to carry this out.

CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION?

If thirty eight states sign on to this you not only have the 2/3 of the states needed to call a Constitutional Convention, you also have the 3/4 of the states needed to ratify an amendment. If the push for the Tenth Amendment rights of the states is not recognized this is the next step; to call for a Constitutional Convention. The question is, can it be contained to just the health care debate or would it throw open the whole Constitution for reconsideration?

These are the times that try mens souls.

"Idaho took the lead in a growing, nationwide fight against health care overhaul Wednesday when its governor became the first to sign a measure requiring the state attorney general to sue the federal government if residents are forced to buy health insurance.
Similar legislation is pending in 37 other states.

Constitutional law experts say the movement is mostly symbolic because federal laws supersede those of the states.

But the state measures reflect a growing frustration with President President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. The proposal would cover some 30 million uninsured people, end insurance practices such as denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, require almost all Americans to get coverage by law, and try to slow the cost of medical care nationwide.
Democratic leaders hope to vote on it this weekend.

With Washington closing in on a deal in the months-long battle over health care overhaul, Republican state lawmakers opposed to the measure are stepping up opposition.
Otter, a Republican, said he believes any future lawsuit from Idaho has a legitimate shot of winning, despite what the naysayers say.

"The ivory tower folks will tell you, 'No, they're not going anywhere,' " he told reporters. "But I'll tell you what, you get 36 states, that's a critical mass. That's a constitutional mass."

:...The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken, and there is discussion in political science circles about just how such a convention would be convened, and what kind of changes it would bring about."

THE CONSTITUTION PARTY AND THE STATES

In today's installment of his commentary on the Constitution Party Platform Ioannes examines the plank titled "Bring Government Back Home". He quotes paragraph 1885 of Catechism of the Catholic Church and its discussion on the role of "subsidiarity" which states:

The principle of subsidiarity is opposed to all forms of collectivism. It sets limits for state intervention. It aims at harmonizing the relationships between individuals and societies. It tends toward the establishment of true international order.

According to The Acton Institute subsidiarity is defined as:

(The tenet) that nothing should be done by a larger and more complex organization which can be done as well by a smaller and simpler organization. In other words, any activity which can be performed by a more decentralized entity should be. This principle is a bulwark of limited government and personal freedom. It conflicts with the passion for centralization and bureaucracy characteristic of the Welfare State.

This is a vitally important concept that seems to be lost on many today, including the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. The very basis of the American Republic is subsidiarity; the understanding that all rights come from God through man who in turn lends some of them to the state. Because of this all the power of the state rests in God through the individual, not in the Federal Government as so many believe today. The closer to the individual the center of political power lies the better for society. The Constitution Party supports the Tenth Amendment which states clearly and succinctly:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Until, through our power at the ballot box, we force our politicians to understand and accept the limited power we have lent to them and they begin to act accordingly Americans can never be free. The Constitution Party understands its limits and thus respects and honors our freedom and our God given authority over the government.

ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL

Animal Farm posted a rant today about his total disgust with the Senate and Health Control. I couldn't agree with him more.

This got me to thinking about Washington and its ability to control and direct our lives. This isn't what the Framers had in mind.

So, forget Washington. Focus on local politics; dog catchers, school boards, county politics. The progressives have infiltrated these local groups to such an extent that they will be able to control voting at the national level. We need to cut this off at the root.

Insist on the reestablishment of state militia groups under the controlling authority of the governor. This is to keep militia within the bounds established by the Constitution. These militias will be needed to enforce state sovereignty as spelled out in the Constitution. Again, this has to be done at the local level by electing state reps that share the same goal.

If we can control our states we can control our country. The Progressives have focused our attention so thoroughly on national politics that we haven't been paying attention at home. They've done this so that they could flank our defenses; defenses established by the Constitution through the Tenth Amendment.

Communists work this way. They are happy with the small victories knowing that they add up over time. They always make sure to gain control over the institutions that have the most ability to impact public opinion, starting with the schools. They always work from the bottom up. The cancer stays hidden until it can erupt, fully malignant into public view.

Take over your local political committees, regardless of affiliation. People of good will can disagree about details while working towards the common goal of protecting our Constitution and our way of life. This isn't right or left, this is right or wrong.

Learn how the system works so that we can use it to our advantage. Do the same things the commies do and fundamentally change the direction that they have established. We've got to get deadly serious about this because we are running out of time and options. It may be too late already.

If working within the system doesn't get it done the next step will involve guns. We will end up with something similar to the French Revolution; needless bloodletting with a result that will still be terrible. We can't let it get there. We have to save our Constitution and our country.

We have to realize that we are fighting for all the marbles. The winner will take all.
