Yesterday, according to Politico and many other sources, President Obama laid out his plans for massive education spending. According to Politico:
"Obama underscored his higher-education goal: that by 2020, the U.S. will have the largest number of college graduates of any country. His new proposal is “the most significant down payment yet” on achieving that, he said."
Now, I have to admit, I'm just a high school educated blue collar guy but it seems to me that all the education in the world won't put food on the table if there are no jobs to do. Training millions of middle managers will not prepare this country to start producing salable goods, only more service industries full of people that can't do anything really useful, anything that can be sold around the world to create more good, decent paying jobs at home. India has alot of college graduates, most of whom answer the questions of befuddled computer users on the phone. If we're going to spend money on education, lets create machinists, millwrights, welders and others to rebuild the manufacturing base that we need to pull us out of this depression, not over educated whiners that think the world owes them a living.
