My wife, Kathy, who is demonstrably smarter than I am (she went to college and graduated; I didn't) has a question about the underlying logic and the overall truthfulness of an ad from Planned Parenthood. Yea, I know what you're thinking; Planned Parenthood would lie? Murder maybe, but would they go so far as to utter an untruth?
You go girl:
"After your bleeding period is over, your body starts producing estrogen, and the ovaries are being primed for ovulation.
...If the cervical fluid becomes fertile up to five days prior to ovulation and you have sexual intercourse, the sperm can live inside your fallopian tube during this time. For example, you can have sexual intercourse on Monday and not ovulate until Friday but still conceive. The chances of conceiving a girl are greater this way because female sperm tend to live longer than male sperm.
Given the fact that sperm can live up to five days inside a womans body, the egg only lives 12 to 24 hours. Rarely, a second egg will pop out 24 hours after the first. So tentatively there is about a week long window for conception to occur."
Beyond Fertility
I also looked up the morning after pill on Planned Parenthood’s site.
Planned parenthood says the Morning After Pill can prevent pregnancy up to five days after you have sex. It says the pregnancy cannot happen because the hormones in the pill causes a thickness in the cervical mucus and that thickness prevents sperm from getting to the egg. It also thins the lining of the uterus which may prevent the egg from attaching to it. They specifically say this pill is not abortion; however, if the sperm can live inside the fallopian tubes for five days it can already be fertilizing the egg before you take this pill. Am I correct? If that is the case and you prevent the fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus, isn’t that technically an abortion?
They say on their YouTube commercial, if you are already pregnant it won’t have any affect on the pregnancy. But, if the egg has been fertilized and not yet attached, won’t this prevent the pregnancy from going to term? Can you check on it?"
The ad from Planned Parenthood says that a woman can take this pill up to five days after sex. They go on to say that it does not cause an abortion. Beyond Fertility states that there is a five day period after sex that conception can occur. The site further claims that the egg and sperm will join together within 24 hours after ovulation occurs.
I'm no doctor but a lack of qualification has never stopped me from saying anything. Just this one time however, I'm going to let someone that actually knows what they're talking about say something:

So if we are to take Dr. Lejeune at his word then we know that at the moment of conception, the point where the egg and sperm join together, human DNA is created and all that is necessary for human life is present in the unborn child. This being the case, if a woman were to take the Morning After pill 3 days after sex and the egg and sperm had combined in the interim an abortion would in fact be the result. It would not just be birth control, as Planned Parenthood states in their video. She would be forcing her body to expel a fertilized egg; a new human life.
So I guess the people at Planned Parenthood are not just murderers, they're lying murderers!

"Present opinion of the birth control pill has been formed by a “sophisticated marketing campaign” which hides the Pill’s dependency on abortion and its connections with the eugenics movement, one pro-life writer says.
Denver attorney Rebecca R. Messall offered her view in an editorial published on the website of the Denver Post. She wrote in response to a Post story which linked the Pill to Mother’s Day.
The Post discussed birth control advocate and Planned Parenthood foundress Margaret Sanger, saying she went to the American West where “independent thinkers” were willing to take up her issues. The story quoted both proponents of the Pill, who thought the contraceptive was an “historic boon to mothers,” and opponents, who said the drug is harmful to women and can cause abortions.
Messall, who has written for the pro-life journal The Human Life Review, claimed that the Post “chose to celebrate everything glaringly responsible for preventing or terminating motherhood” for a day dedicated to honoring motherhood.
...“Throughout its existence Planned Parenthood has been a key tool to reduce or eliminate births among blacks, other minorities and the disabled,” Russell wrote in the Post.
She attributed the eugenics and population control movement’s power to “huge trusts with billions of dollars in global assets” that are themselves likely funded by corporations which distribute birth control pills and other contraceptive drugs and devices. She suggested that U.S. taxpayer funding also supports this system because of politicians who receive campaign donations from these corporations and like-minded individuals."

"A new remote-control abortion pill-dispensing system being used by Planned Parenthood in Iowa has come under fire from pro-life advocates who say the “telemed abortion” method kills unborn children, bypasses the doctor-patient relationship and risks the life and health of mothers.
“This is how far we have fallen. Drugs strong enough to kill and expel a baby are dispensed like aspirin,” commented Priests for Life President Fr. Frank Pavone in the National Catholic Register.
The remote system allows a Planned Parenthood physician from Des Moines to talk to each patient at another Planned Parenthood outlet by video conference, the Des Moines Register reports. The physician can then press a computer button to open a drawer in front of the patient to provide the abortion pills."

"A containment cap on a ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico is now funnelling off 10,000 barrels of oil a day, BP's chief executive Tony Hayward says.
The amount has risen since Saturday, and implies more than half the estimated 12,000 to 19,000 barrels leaking each day is now being captured.
The spill has been described as the biggest environmental disaster in US history.
Mr Hayward told the BBC that BP would restore the Gulf to its original state.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, Mr Hayward said: "As we speak, the containment cap is producing around 10,000 barrels of oil a day to the surface."
Asked what amount of the estimate that represented, the BP chief executive said it was expected to be "the majority, probably the vast majority" of the oil gushing out."

Pardon my extreme skepticism but I don't trust anything related to this blowout or any announcements from BP our their willing partner the U.S. government. The numbers published on the amounts flowing from this pipe have jumped all over the place and according to many experts have been wildly understated. So if they want to say they are recovering 10% or 50% or whatever amount of oil, how can they know and how can we trust their numbers? Not to mention the very real possibility that there are other, more substantial leaks closer to the well head.
Pray that we've rounded a corner but don't trust what you're told.

According to regulatory filings, RawStory.com has found that Goldman Sachs sold 4,680,822 shares of BP in the first quarter of 2010. Goldman's sales were the largest of any firm during that time. Goldman would have pocketed slightly more than $266 million if their holdings were sold at the average price of BP's stock during the quarter.
If Goldman had sold these shares today, their investment would have lost 36 percent its value, or $96 million. The share sales represented 44 percent of Goldman's holdings -- meaning that Goldman's remaining holdings have still lost tens of millions in value."

"Beneath its commitment to soft-spoken diplomacy and beyond the combat zones of Afghanistan and Iraq, the Obama administration has significantly expanded a largely secret U.S. war against al-Qaeda and other radical groups, according to senior military and administration officials.
Special Operations forces have grown both in number and budget, and are deployed in 75 countries, compared with about 60 at the beginning of last year. In addition to units that have spent years in the Philippines and Colombia, teams are operating in Yemen and elsewhere in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.
Commanders are developing plans for increasing the use of such forces in Somalia, where a Special Operations raid last year killed the alleged head of al-Qaeda in East Africa. Plans exist for preemptive or retaliatory strikes in numerous places around the world, meant to be put into action when a plot has been identified, or after an attack linked to a specific group.
The surge in Special Operations deployments, along with intensified CIA drone attacks in western Pakistan, is the other side of the national security doctrine of global engagement and domestic values President Obama released last week."

Our basic rights, those given us by God and protected by the Constitution are being deliberately and quietly regulated away. These Progressive bastards know that they'd never get this stuff through Congress so they just do an end run, creating some new rule or requirement, removing from us that which we possess by our nature.
Government must be returned to the people and taken from the hands of the regulators in Washington. Either through the ballot box or force; it really doesn't matter. We can and must exhaust all peaceful means but at some point we have to ask ourselves if we have enough time left to do it. Because at some point it will become illegal to make the changes needed through voting. That right will be regulated away, too.
"The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking ways to "reinvent" journalism, and that's a cause for concern. According to a May 24 draft proposal, the agency thinks government should be at the center of a media overhaul. The bureaucracy sees it as a problem that the Internet has introduced a wealth of information options to consumers, forcing media companies to adapt and experiment to meet changing market needs. FTC's policy staff fears this new reality.
"There are reasons for concern that experimentation may not produce a robust and sustainable business model for commercial journalism," the report states. With no faith that the market will work things out for the better, government thinks it must come to the rescue.
The ideas being batted around to save the industry share a common theme: They are designed to empower bureaucrats, not consumers. "The Pittsburgh Channel reports that an explosion at a gas well in the Marcellus Shale, has forced a mile-wide evacuation in Clearfield County, PA. The irony of this event occurring even as CNBC shows some guy mopping up oil with hay from a bucket is beyond sublime. Also, so much for clear energy. There are no details as yet which company's well was responsible for the explosion, although there are is one junk-bond laden firm which comes to mind. Update: the gas well operator is EOG. Update 2: Elizabeth Ivers, a spokeswoman for driller EOG Resources, said the well has been brought under control, just about 16 hours after it started spewing gas. Spadoni said no one was injured and there are no homes within a mile of the well."

Open ANWAR and the American West to drilling. The little bit of damage it might do to a very small part of the landscape is insignificant when compared to the damage done to the Gulf. At least we would be drilling in a place where we can breathe.
And then we need to ask ourselves why we turned away from nuclear energy in the first place.
Dear President Obama,
Every citizen with a modicum of insight into public affairs would say that America is now at a crossroads of decision about what kind of future we want for our nation-and, by extension, for the rest of the world. Whether we like it or not, you are the one who is designated by a vote of the electorate to lead us in that decision-making process. You have asked for the job, and you have proposed yourself as being competent for it. History will judge your Administration on its own merits when your term is complete, but we, the citizens of this country, must judge it for what we see happening before our very eyes. Quite frankly, the picture isn't pretty, and you haven't earned our respect as a leader.
The reason for this, Mr. President, is that we can't believe what you say, and frankly, what you do is utterly unbelievable at times.
The recent Gulf Coast oil spill disaster is indicative of your utter carelessness with the onerous burden of governance. Not only did you dis the families of the 11 workers killed in the disaster, but you also attended fundraisers in CA, a trip to the golf course and several state parties in the White House during the whole time the Governor of Louisiana has been screaming frantically for your attention. How can you expect us to believe that you were actually "in charge" of handling the disaster? In six weeks we have seen hardly a shred of evidence to convince us of that. A leader who says he is in charge of something and then conducts a systematic campaign of blaming, dodging, obfuscating, ignoring and even now prosecuting the others involved - instead of fixing the problem - will hardly go down in the record books as the savior he proposed himself to be when he was elected. You are the Commander-in-Chief who has gone AWOL on a truly national crisis.
On top of all that, you basically blew off a sacred national holiday, Memorial Day, for the sake of a vacation to gangsterland. That slap in the face to our military men and women was not lost on anyone, nor was the narcissistic disregard for American history or anything other than what fits your extreme political agenda. These are appalling traits for the one who holds the highest political office in our land, and only a fawning and dishonest media allows you to get away with this negligence in office.
Speaking of which, what are we to make of your pathetic excuse for the crime of attempting to bribe Congressman Sestak to bow out of the Senate race against Arlen Specter? Do you really think Americans believe the utterly implausible story about offering him a "non-paying" position on some presidential panel? Your Administration's explanation, issued on the afternoon of a holiday weekend, rings hollow, and everyone knows it. "Hollow" is an adequate word to describe your Administration, your political theatre and your rhetoric. Even some of your staunchest ideological supporters admit that it is getting increasingly hard to believe that you mean anything you say.
In the midst of all this domestic incompetence and dishonesty, we have seen no realistic response to North Korean, Iranian or Turkish aggression on the world scene. Foreign politicians know you are a leftist lightweight, and so we can expect more of the same from the rogue nations of the world, further destabilizing the security of our nation and the world. We have, however, seen you and your inept band of political marauders pander to foreign dictators and exploit the Mexican President to abuse us and our national deliberations on serious issues. We have seen your ideological hacks take over whole industries, plunder the private sector, abuse the good will of states and consume sound American institutions as if they were your enemies and with a ferocity that would befit only those who we would call our true national enemies.
Like the Gulf oil spill, your Administration is out of control, and every day is another step closer to disaster. As the oil continues to pollute, kill and damage the external beauty and economy of a whole region, you and your team are doing the same with the trust of the people who built this great country.
We deserve better, Mr. President, and it's time you start doing your job.
