AN ASTUTE OBSERVATION

"I've come to the point in my life where the difference between a Republican and Democratic is about like the difference between syphilis and gonorrhea."

Attributed to author Rita Mae Brown at the 2010 William Woods Commencement Ceremony.

I don't know much about Ms. Brown and the little I do know tends to make me think we wouldn't find a lot of common ground politically. Regardless, her comments this weekend concerning the political parties were right on the mark.

  1. Catawissa, there is an important difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. When a Republican wins the Presidency, he appoints Justices to SCOTUS who are pro-life. When a Democrat wins, he appoints Justices who are pro-death.

The game is rigged. No candidate from the Constitution Party can win the Presidency (or even an effective minority in Congress. We're stuck between the lesser of two evils, like it or not. Republicans ARE better than Democrats - NOT much better, but still better.

This is what we get for abandoning our free voice in a Constitutional Republic for those who have the most money.

    :-(

  2. And I'd rather get gonorrhea than syphilis. Actually, I'd rather not get either, but I suppose if I have to choose...

  3. The comparison is closer to pneumonia and syphilis. Republicans give a bad case of pneumonia and the Democrats syphilis.

  4. I've had pneumonia twice and I don't know that I ever want it again, either. It took my freedom along with my breath. I was forced to do what it wanted me to do, my movements limited by my breathing. It literally would take me 45 minutes to walk the 20 feet to the bathroom.

We could go on with this forever. We both understand that voting for the Republicans, which will probably be the only choice, other than sitting it out, is voting for the lesser of two evils, simply a pragmatic choice, crossing our fingers and hoping for the best. I would love to have a candidate that speaks the truth and means it. I won't hold my breath.
