PARISHIONERS CO-RESPONSIBLE FOR PARISHES AND THE CHURCH-LORD HELP US

"On Sunday morning, the Holy Father celebrated Mass at St. John of the Cross, a parish located in the northern part of Rome. In his first visit to the relatively new church, Pope Benedict reminded the congregation that they are "co-responsible" for the Church and her mission.

The Holy Father presided over the Eucharistic celebration on the third Sunday of Lent on his visit to the church, which was consecrated in 2001. He exhorted the people “to make this church a place where you can better listen to the Lord, who speaks to you in Sacred Scripture," he said, calling it the "life giving center" of the community.

Addressing the involvement of the lay faithful, he urged them to not only be "collaborators" in their roles ... but to be "corresponsible for the being and action of the Church."

I don't know about the rest of the world but this simple statement of fact will open the door to widespread abuse in America. Just as the Church in America mis-applied and abused the Second Vatican Council to the detriment of the faithful, they will use this statement to undermine the rightful authority of the parish priest. Americans will not be co-responsible under the authority of the priest. No, we will form committees and establish leadership councils. We'll take the lawful authority granted us by God through our baptism and our role as parishioners and we will morph it into religious truth decided by the vote. This simple statement, if history is our guide, will be used to destroy what little authority is still possessed by the priest and the Church in America.

This same inability to understand the truth taught by the Church will present itself as the Church once again takes up the cause of "Mary Co-Redemptrix". We seem to be genetically unable to understand the concept that while an individual can play a pivotal role in a process that does not make them an equal to the one that is in command.

I pray for our priests if the Pope's statement becomes common knowledge here in America.
