"Self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states of the union, according to the Gallup Poll.
At the same time, more Americans nationwide are saying this year that they are conservative than have made that claim in any of the last four years.
During Republican President George W. Bush’s second term, the number of self identified conservatives as measured by Gallup dropped, riding at a low of 37% as recently as last year.
Even though conservatives outnumber liberals in all 50 states, in 21 of these states self-identified moderates outnumber conservatives, and in 4 states the percentage saying they are conservative and the percentage saying they are moderate is exactly the same."

So, what does all of this tell us? That the Republicans will come roaring back and retake the House and Senate, with the Presidency to be secured in 2012? I don't think so.
We are seeing a reaction to the overreaching of the Democrats. If you look at what happened when Bush was in office you will see that the number of people identifying themselves as conservatives dropped, too.
It's the moderates that I find interesting. Those are the people Reagan brought into the Republican Party. Most probably come from a conservative Democrat background. They don't buy into the Progressive vision of the modern Democrat Party. These people are the key. If we could find a leader, someone that is not part of the two traditional parties, someone that knows why they believe what they believe and how to explain it, that person could get the moderates to rally around them and probably bring in most of the conservatives and maybe a few progressives. I believe that most of the moderates tend to favor the conservative cause, but not the neo-conservatism of the Bush's and their pals.
Most Americans want to be left alone. We may have different views on the role of government but the one thing that most agree on is that we are better off when government is kept at bay. Both the neo-cons and the progressives seem to want to jam it down our throats.
The time is right for a third party to finally have a chance to win. It just needs a leader.
