"As he has been on more than a half-dozen occasions since May 2007, Danny Glover is on the wrong side of the illegal immigration issue in Arizona. Yesterday, the Hugo Chávez-loving Hollywood actor and left-wing socialist activist made a stop in Phoenix to denounce what a local rag describes as Arizona’s new “papers please” law, SB 1070."

DANNY GLOVER FOR PRESIDENT
I now officially nominate Mr. Glover for President of the new kingdom of San Francisco (see post below), the land of freedom and unlimited handouts for the illegal immigrants wrongly removed from the racist U.S. of A. I'm sure he's already got a room set up for Jose and Maria at his house, along with their kids and parents.

AN IMMIGRATION SOLUTION
"Tens of thousands of people across the Bay Area turned out in protest of Arizona's tough new immigration law. The demonstrations went on all day and some stretched into the night.
In San Jose, thousands of marchers headed to an evening rally at city hall. In San Francisco, a separate demonstration wrapped up in the afternoon, but not without a bit of trouble.
Three people were attacked and at least two others were arrested. The people assaulted were part of the Minutemen demonstration, a group in favor of Arizona's new immigration law.
They said a large group of immigrants' rights supporters followed them to the BART station on Market Street and started punching and kicking them, and calling them names.
"They said we were racists, and we were against them, and against their town, and against San Francisco," said Parker Wilson with the Bay Area National Anarchists. "What they were saying, they said we need to get out and called us racists, and that we need to go home. And then they just attacked my friends and me."
ABC
A friend of mine (thanks, Uncle Donald) e-mailed me the other day and suggested those that are so enamored of the illegal immigrants should be given a place where they can protect and support them with their own money, apart from the rest of us evil racists that would like to see our borders enforced. I think that's a great idea and I'd like to nominate San Francisco.
In 2007 we read this statement from the Mayor:
"Mayor Gavin Newsom vowed Sunday to maintain San Francisco as a sanctuary for immigrants and do everything he can to discourage federal authorities from conducting immigration raids.
The mayor cannot stop federal authorities from making arrests, Newsom told about 300 mostly Latino members of St. Peter's Church and other religious groups supporting immigrants. But no San Francisco employee will help with immigration enforcement."
SF Gate
It would appear that the city would be on board and I'm sure their Congressman (person? I get so confused), Nancy Pelosi is all for it:
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."
The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as "very, very patriotic."
"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco."
Fox News
The Archdiocese of San Francisco would most certainly support such a move. This is from their website:
"USCCB Migration Chairman Joins Arizona Bishops in Decrying Anti-Immigrant Measure, Calls for Comprehensive Reform
WASHINGTON— In solidarity with the Catholic bishops of Arizona, Bishop John C. Wester of Salt Lake City, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration, issued a statement April 27, opposing the enactment and implementation of Arizona SB 1070, which criminalizes undocumented immigrants.
“This new law, although limited to the State of Arizona, could have impact throughout the nation, in terms of how members of our immigrant communities are both perceived and treated,” Bishop Wester said in the statement. “SB 1070 gives law enforcement officials powers to detain and arrest individuals based on a very low legal standard, possibly leading to the profiling of individuals based upon their appearance, manner of speaking, or ethnicity.”
Bishop Wester called SB 1070 “symptomatic of the absence of federal leadership on the issue of immigration” and called for “the Administration and Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to enact comprehensive immigration reform as soon as possible.”
Archdiocese of San Francisco
Based on the evidence I think San Fran gets the nod. Now, how to fund the thing. San Francisco at one time sought to declare itself a military free zone:
"Everyone knows that San Francisco is a focal point for anti-war sentiment. Protests, civil disobedience and other acts designed to show opposition to the war in Iraq are standard fare in these parts. But now it seems that San Francisco anti-war activists have taken their opposition to the war in Iraq a step further.
Not content with simply protesting the war, they've trained their sights on all things military. In an apparent effort to rid the city of any semblance of its military history, various leftist groups, and even some city officials, are trying to erase the military's presence altogether. In short, San Francisco has declared itself a military-free zone."
SF Gate
Let's see, the last time I remember a city trying to remove the U.S. military from its borders was in Charleston S.C. at Fort Sumter, a little thing we like to call secession. So, if San Fran wants to secede, let 'em. This makes the funding of their little sanctuary for illegals less troublesome. The American people will no longer send them any money, for anything. That way we don't have to worry about them using say, education money to teach illegals or highway funding to improve the roads they drive on. A nice clean break from the union will do fine.
So then, how will they afford this sudden influx of the poor, innocent illegals (how's that for an oxymoron)? Simple. All those, from Al Sharpton to the idiots in Hollywood to the unions like SEIU that are bent on making sure we can't control our borders can write them a check. They can put their money, not ours, where their mouths are.
So now we've got the place and the funding is piling up (leftists are so generous). What's the next step? Getting the illegals to their new home. From this point on, all illegals caught within our borders will be put on a bus, or if that's too Draconian, perhaps a private coach, all lovingly paid for by those on the left that have for so long decried the mistreatment of our illegal brothers by the cruel U.S. government and its evil surrogate Arizona, and driven, very carefully while avoiding any surface irregularities on the roadway, to their posh new homes in San Francisco. There they will fall into the loving arms of the good people of the city, welcomed as prodigals returning to the place of their birth. A cry of joy will go up across the land as checks are inked and consciences are soothed.
And the sun will rise once again over another beautiful morning in America. Mexico will have a place to unload their poor and oppressed while the left in our country can welcome them as long lost brothers and shoulder the cost they've so long yearned to accept. And it won't cost the rest of us a cent, with the added bonus of getting San Francisco out of our hair and Pelosi out of the Congress.
With its impending bankruptcy, maybe we should just go ahead and give the entire state of California to them. No one can ever say we aren't generous.
(If you want, pass this on. Maybe we can start a movement.)

"SOCIAL JUSTICE" CAN GET SOMEBODY KILLED ALONG THE BORDER
I just don't get it. People from other countries come here, break the law, avoid taxes, use the public services they don't pay for, take jobs from legal citizens by working for slave wages and yet, we are supposed to turn our backs. Many of these same people are involved in the drug trade, complicit in murder, extortion, kidnapping and all sorts of felonious activities and we're supposed to turn our backs.
WHY??!!
Because of some misplaced religious concern for the welfare of criminals that completely overlooks the very real threat posed by these same criminals to the welfare of the law abiding citizen, regardless of ethnicity.
Families may be separated; true enough. Families are separated every time a criminal is sentenced to prison. Yet, I don't hear an outcry from these same religious leaders to abolish prisons and set the felons free to maintain the cohesion of the family structure. Why?
Witnesses may be afraid to come forward. Again, true enough. The real and complete truth is that they are already afraid to come forward because they know that the drug gangs have the power along the border. If anyone is found to have reported criminal activity they will be killed along with their family. So tell me bishops, how does refusing to allow law enforcement to do it's job protect anyone from drug gang coercion? And who are you more afraid of; the American law enforcement officer that is controlled by the force of law or the Mexican drug gangster that controls by the gun?
We must absolutely control our borders before any other discussion takes place. Murder is a greater sin than separation of families and until immigration is controlled and our borders are secured murder will be the way of life along our Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and California border. The bishops have let a false sense of compassion blind them to evil. They've accepted this idea of a seamless garment; that all sins are equal, abortion and murder equivalent to a perceived denial of "social justice".
Common sense and our faith tell us this is a lie.

"Arizona’s three Catholic bishops and other religious leaders in the state have issued a statement calling on Gov. Jan Brewer to veto recent legislation targeting undocumented immigrants. They warned the bill would separate families and discourage crime victims and witnesses.
The Arizona Senate passed SB 1070 on Monday by a vote of 17 to 11. It requires state and local police to determine the immigration status of people if there is “reasonable suspicion” they are illegal immigrants. They must arrest those unable to provide documentation showing they are in the United States legally.
The religious leaders’ April 19 letter voiced “common serious concerns” about the bill. Bishop of Gallup James S. Wall, Bishop of Phoenix Thomas J. Olmsted and Bishop of Tucson Gerald Kicanas were signatories to the letter, as were leaders from Protestant denominations and a rabbi with the American Jewish Committee.
They warned it could classify as felons not only dangerous criminals, but also undocumented immigrants who came to the United States at “a very young age” and have “no familiarity” with any other country."

MORE "SOCIAL JUSTICE" FROM A CHURCH LEADER
"Law enforcement officials from the Arizona counties hardest hit by illegal immigration say they want U.S. troops to help secure the border, to prevent the deaths of more officers at the hands of criminals who enter the country illegally.
“We’ve had numerous officers that have been killed by illegal immigrants in Arizona,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Monday at a Capitol Hill news conference. “And that shouldn’t happen one time.”
CNS News
From Cardinal Roger Mahony's blog:
"The Arizona legislature just passed the country's most retrogressive, mean-spirited, and useless anti-immigrant law [SB 1070, awaiting the expected signature of Gov. Jan Brewer]. The tragedy of the law is its totally flawed reasoning: that immigrants come to our country to rob, plunder, and consume public resources. That is not only false, the premise is nonsense."
The Cardinal's statement that the reason Arizona passed the legislation is because they believe "...that immigrants come to our country to rob, plunder, and consume public resources." is a lie. This legislation has been passed because some illegal immigrants come here to rob, steal, murder and transport drugs and human slaves into the country. The Cardinal, just like so many other Progressives in the Church, is trying to distort the truth to fit his own preconceptions. It is unfortunate that it is mostly Mexicans committing these crimes and it is more unfortunate still that Mexicans tend to look and sound like, well...Mexicans. In a high crime area, such as along the border, why would we have law enforcement waste its time checking on light skinned, blonde haired people that have German accents. Geez, next thing you know we'll be strip searching grandmas in airports to find Muslim...Oh yeah, we do that already.
What led the Arizona legislature to pass such a law is so obvious to all of us who have been working for federal comprehensive immigration reform: the present immigration system is completely incapable of balancing our nation's need for labor and the supply of that labor. We have built a huge wall along our southern border, and have posted in effect two signs next to each other. One reads, "No Trespassing," and the other reads "Help Wanted." The ill-conceived Arizona law does nothing to balance our labor needs.
Uh, Cardinal? Last time I checked we were in the beginning stages of a depression with 20% or more of the American workforce looking for work. Time to rethink those same old Progressive talking points.
"The law is wrongly assuming that Arizona residents, including local law enforcement personnel, will now shift their total attention to guessing which Latino-looking or foreign-looking person may or may not have proper documents. That's also nonsense. American people are fair-minded and respectful. I can't imagine Arizonans now reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques whereby people are required to turn one another in to the authorities on any suspicion of documentation. Are children supposed to call 911 because one parent does not have proper papers? Are family members and neighbors now supposed to spy on one another, create total distrust across neighborhoods and communities, and report people because of suspicions based upon appearance?"
So, if I saw someone breaking into a house or stealing a car it would be somehow immoral or Nazi-like for me to report them to the police? Or do we only have to follow certain laws, the ones we agree with. Cardinal, could you point me to the part in the Catechism that states that?
"Various cities and states have tried such abhorrent tactics over the decades with absolutely no positive effect. Such laws have all been struck down by courts or repealed by wise citizens. Sadly, such laws lead to a new round of immigrant-bashing--usually in times of economic downturn.
Our highest priority today is to bring calm and reasoning to discussions about our immigrant brothers and sisters. We are a nation of immigrants, and their commitment and skills have created the finest country in the world. Let's not allow fearful and ill-informed rhetoric to shape public policy. Let's put a human face on our immigrant friends, and let's listen to their stories and their desires to improve their own lives and the good of the nation.
Almost all of our immigrant families are "mixed," that is, some members have legal documents to be here and some members do not. Asking ordinary Americans and over-worked law enforcement officers to hunt down people of suspicious legal documentation is ludicrous and ineffective.
Let's direct our energies where they need to be focused: passing a federal comprehensive immigration law which is forward-looking and which will help balance our need for adequate labor forces in the coming years. The Census Bureau reports that every day a minimum of 10,000 baby boomers retire. How are we going to provide the labor pool to fill all of these jobs in the coming years?
Our nation has no plan for our future labor needs. None.
As our economy begins to grow again, and as goods and services need to be provided and moved around the country, the need for motivated and eager employees will be of highest priority. Let's put our focus on people and our future together, not on retrogressive tactics which have never worked before in our country's history.
I have met so many of our immigrant families and I am in awe at their love for our country, their care and concern for their children, and their resourcefulness in helping to improve our communities, our way of life, and our economic future."
So then I guess the Cardinal is suggesting that no matter how many American ranchers are killed, American citizens kidnapped or American citizens are shot; I guess no matter how much crime and destruction crosses our border from Mexico America should sit on her hands and hope and pray that we don't offend or inconvenience some poor immigrant who just came here for work. Really, the last thing we want to do is to hurt the delicate psyche of someone that has come to our country as a virtual slave, undercutting and replacing American workers that refuse to be exploited. And Cardinal, I can show you where exploitation of workers violates Catholic teaching.
We have a right and our country has an obligation to defend us from invasion. We are in the process of being descended upon by foreign nationals intent upon poisoning our children and killing any American that gets in the way, even if that American is of Mexican descent.
If I lived along the border I would be willing to accept a bit of inconvenience from time to time to keep my family and myself safe. No one wants to carry papers with them for identification. Of course, no one wants to get shot while they're mending fences, either. Until we can end the shooting we are probably going to have to put up with a bit of inconvenience. This isn't the first time in this country and it won't be the last.
The Cardinal has attempted to change the subject all the way through his article. This isn't about future population or filling jobs. This is about survival for the people and the state of Arizona. We can revisit the other issues after the invasion of drug cartels and illegals has been brought to a halt.
In the meantime, quit whining and pissing about the immigrants. It's never been easy to make it here but somehow millions have. All the Micks, Kikes Spicks, Polacks and Niggers. All the Dago's and Krauts, the Chinamen and Japs. All of these groups came here facing incredible odds and persecution. They were relegated to the margins of society and took the lowest of jobs. And every single group made it out and became a vital part of the American story and way of life. They aren't called all the racially divisive names anymore. They're just Americans. The new Mexican immigrants will do the same. But it has to happen naturally. Neither the government or the Church should try to give them special status. They'll need to earn it, just like everybody else.
Because, if the thing is forced, there will be violence.
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) says there is a brief time frame this year for the United States Congress to attempt a comprehensive reform of the nation's immigration laws.
Gutierrez, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Immigration Task Force, received a commitement from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that his chamber would take up reform legislation in the near future.
Gutierrez says that the most likely spot on the calendar is the period after the Memorial Day recess, which ends June 7 and the beginning of July, when the confirmation process to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is expected to begin.
The process of crafting and passing a bill will require Republican support, but Gutierrez says that Democrats must lead on the issue. "Democrats cannot expect Republicans to join them at the dinner table unless you prepare a menu," said Gutierrez, "we're in charge we should set the table." Gutierrez pointed to a Washington Post op-ed by Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) as a good blueprint for reform and hoped they would be able to turn that document into comprehensive reform legislation.

THE POT IS SIMMERING
I expect to see more of this sort of activity as the unemployment levels worsen. Both extremes on the left and right are looking for a fight. They hope to use civil unrest as a way to leverage themselves into power. Both are dangerous and both will do whatever they must to achieve their ends because they both believe that the ends justify the means.
We've got a difficult summer ahead of us here in America.
We've got a difficult summer ahead of us here in America.
"A rally by 40 members of a group calling itself the National Socialist Movement drew hundreds of counter-protesters from throughout the region. In the hours leading up to the rally, where members called for the removal of all nonwhites from America's southwest, counter-protesters scuffled with people perceived to be sympathizing with the white supremacists' message.
One man, who sported Nazi tattoos, was severely beaten near City Hall while another man, who carried a confusing sign about religion with a scribbled swastika, was pummeled by a mob of people on Spring Street between 1st and 2nd.
The Los Angeles Police Department went on tactical alert during the event and took responsibility for escorting the white supremacists to and from the demonstration site. Earlier in the week the group had obtained a permit for the demonstration.
At the end of the rally, after 2:30 p.m., police escorted the white supremacists to the criminal courts building parking lot to get in their vehicles. However, one car failed to start. A crowd of counter-demonstrators ran to the lot and began hurling rocks and bottles into the parking lot's southwest corner, hitting cars and shattering glass. As some of the white supremacists held shields emblazoned with swastikas over their heads to protect them from the projectiles, others attempted to jump-start the car.
The LAPD then order the crowd to disperse and reopened the streets."

IMMIGRATION AND NATIONAL ID CARDS
You know, I couldn't figure out last week why, with all of the other huge problems facing our country, the President was bringing immigration back up again. Now I get it.
Control. Use the cover of health care and financial collapse to slip it under our noses. You can't turn your back on this crew for second.
Never let a good crisis go to waste.

"Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain.
Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.
The ID card plan is one of several steps advocates of an immigration overhaul are taking to address concerns that have defeated similar bills in the past."

THE ILLEGALS ARE BACK, AGAIN
As the number of unemployed continues to rise and riots erupt over cuts in services our President wants to allow illegals to stay in the country and compete for the few jobs available. Is he this stupid or is there something else afoot?
"Despite steep odds, the White House has discussed prospects for reviving a major overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, a commitment that President Obama has postponed once already...
...The basis of a bill would include a path toward citizenship for the 10.8 million people living in the U.S. illegally. Citizenship would not be granted lightly, the White House said. Undocumented workers would need to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation."
