While the media and Washington work overtime trying to use the shooting in Tucson to justify suspension of our natural law right to self defense and the means to exercise that right I thought that I'd post this as a reminder of why guns are not only a good thing but in most cases the only thing that will allow a victim the force multiplication needed to fend off an attack by stronger opponents.
What do you think would have happened to this lady if she had to rely on her fists and the police to get her out of this situation?

STATES RIGHTS AND THE MEXICAN INVASION
"Mexicans in Arizona should carry documentation and “act carefully” after the state passed a law requiring local police to determine the immigration status of anyone suspected of being in the country illegally, Mexico’s Foreign Ministry said."
Bloomberg
I'd be the first to admit I'm not a world traveler but I'm thinking; isn't carrying your passport and acting carefully good advice for anyone traveling abroad?
...“There is an adverse political environment for migrant communities and all Mexican visitors,” Mexico’s ministry said. “It’s important to act carefully and respect the local laws.”
From people that I've talked to that do travel quite a bit, the same could be said to an American traveling in France, or Quebec, for that matter.
..."Mexican President Felipe Calderon said April 26 that his country’s citizens are “angered and saddened” by the Arizona law, which he said “doesn’t adequately guarantee respect for people’s fundamental rights.”
Well, President Calderon, Americans are angry and saddened that you can't stop the drug cartels from crossing our borders and killing our citizens. We're also a little pissed that you send slaves to our country to take our jobs from us. Killing us and taking our work doesn't show a whole bunch of respect for our basic human rights, either.
"...Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said during congressional testimony in Washington today that her agency has “deep concerns” about the law and that it will “detract from and siphon resources that we need to focus on those in the country illegally who are committing serious crimes.” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said today that the Justice Department may go to court to challenge the statue."
If the laws aren't worth enforcing then why do we have them on the books?
The Congress shall have Power To...provide for the common Defence;
To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations;
To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization;
To define and punish...Offenses against the Law of Nations;
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.
United States Constitution
While I see nothing in the Constitution authorizing the federal government's involvement in health care, cap and trade or bailing out the "too big to fails", there is a whole lot said about it's responsibility to control the borders. Yet, while our political leaders plot to take our freedoms through unconstitutional programs, the thought of actually fulfilling their Constitutional duties, you know, the one's they swore to uphold, doesn't seem to cross their minds. Perhaps if they had done their duty, we wouldn't be having to see the states pick up the ball.
Because the states are formed by the people and represent them, the states have the same right to self defense as that possessed by their citizens. When the Constitution was written to form the federal government the states authorized giving the federal government power to protect them in Article 1, Section 8. In so doing they did not abrogate their own rights and authority to defend themselves if the federal government refuses to act.
Arizona is defending itself against invasion because the federal government won't.
Just because the people form a police force for the common defense doesn't mean I don't have the right to shoot you if you enter my home without my permission. It's no different for the states.

ARM YOURSELVES-SOCIETY IS BEGINNING TO CRACK
This is the reality of life in the new America. As governments shrink or collapse and the services we've relied on disappear it's up to the citizens to take responsibility for themselves and their communities. The sooner we realize this and the sooner we begin to work with the existing political structure to make the needed changes the better. This transition can be accomplished in an orderly fashion if we want it to. Or, we can bury our heads and hope it all goes away, a bad dream that will disappear in the morning sun. That will guarantee anarchy and chaos as the bad guys move to control us all.
"One judge's solution for citizens feeling less secure because of budget cuts in an Ohio county: Carry a gun.
Judge Alfred Mackey of Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court advised residents Friday to be vigilant and arm themselves because the number of deputies has been cut about in half because of a tight budget. He also urged neighbors to organize anti-crime block watch groups.
"They have to be law-abiding, and if they are not familiar with firearms they need to take a safety course so they are not a threat to their family and friends and themselves," Mackey said Friday.
Mackey, whose comments were first broadcast Thursday by WKYC-TV in Cleveland, was expressing concerns with budget cuts that have trimmed the sheriff's department from 112 to 49 deputies in the county, which is Ohio's largest by land area.
Asked by WKYC how people should respond to the cuts and limited patrols, he said, "Arm themselves. Be very careful and just be vigilant because we're going to have to look after each other."

BRITS MAY BE ALLOWED TO DEFEND THEMSELVES...SOMEDAY
Hmmm... 12 gauge or .45? I wouldn't want to do anything inappropriate. Glad to see someone is showing just a bit of sense in England. I can't imagine how you couldn't defend yourself when threatened. The law, as it stands, asks and expects the impossible.
"Homeowners would be handed a licence to kill burglars by a Tory government.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling raised the election stakes on crime by promising law-abiding citizens extra rights to defend themselves.
If the Tories win the election, he said, they would tear up the law which lets householders use only 'reasonable force' to defend their families against intruders.
The move comes amid public outrage at the 30-month sentence handed last week to Munir Hussain, who chased and beat a member of a gang who had held his family at knifepoint in their home.
Mr Grayling said homeowners should escape conviction even if they kill a burglar - unless they use 'grossly disproportionate' force.
His intervention put the government on the back foot and forced Home Secretary Alan Johnson into a pledge to review the law.
Mr Grayling made it clear that killing a burglar would not necessarily be classed as 'grossly disproportionate'."

MAN IN PRISON FOR DEFENDING FAMILY
I knew that it is nearly impossible to get a gun to defend your family in Britain, but I had no idea that just the act of self defense could land you in jail.
How can the government expect anyone to obey the law when the law is insane?
How can the government expect anyone to obey the law when the law is insane?
"A MILLIONAIRE businessman jailed for taking on a knife maniac who threatened to slaughter his family yesterday told of the hell his sentence has caused.
Munir Hussain was sent down for two and a half years on Monday for GBH with intent while the masked burglar who broke into his home with two accomplices brandishing 12inch knives was set free.
Munir, 53, told his lawyer the injustice had left him "stunned - in a living hell". He said: "I just can't understand a justice system that would jail me for trying to save the lives of my children."
