On the one ha...I'm always so torn about unions. On the one hand, at the time that the union movements began in America there was a need for some sort of representation for workers because it is an undeniable fact that many employers in America's industrial revolution abused their workers. At the same time it is also a fact that many of the early union agitators and leaders were Marxists. And it is also a fact that most unions today continue that Marxist tradition.

I'm against collective bargaining as we know it and I'm also against wages being set for groups instead of individuals. Both are part of a Marxist system or world view.

On the other hand, having worked both sides of the fence in the construction business here in the St. Louis area, it's undeniable that I would have been netter off if I had stayed in the union, at least financially. Union carpenters make way better money and actually have benefits. Non-union carpenters generally earn less for the same work and get nothing in the way of benefits. I'm 52 years old and I don't have any retirement so I'll be working the rest of my life.

But, and this is a big but, I left the union because of its support of the Democrats and abortion and all the other leftist crap. I believe that, knowing what I know, continuing to support their agenda with my money would make me complicit in the activities they involve themselves in. I can't do that in good conscience.

You're right that unions used to be against Communism; at least as far as the workers and the public image were concerned. I would argue however that while the rank and file have always been strong defenders of the country and mostly pretty conservative, the leadership has always been working to serve their own masters, not the good of the membership.

Whether that master was the mob bosses or the Marxists matters not. Both are equally offensive. And in the end the Marxists have taken control, mostly due to government getting rid of the mobsters. Which has to make you wonder about the government involvement in clearing the way for the Marxists and the union's strong support of the Democrat Party.Catawissa Gazetteerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04939761313614220536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3857800884501324974.post-6788899688945124422010-11-14T23:30:44.981-06:002010-11-14T23:30:44.981-06:00Years ago, most of the labour unions in the US wer...Years ago, most of the labour unions in the US were anti-communist. Socialism however, was deeply inbedded in the hearts and minds of many of the pioneers of the labor unions. How else can you explain the advocacy of gay rights, abortion, nationalized healthcare, and always telling the members to vote Democrat, even though the Demo's passed stuff like NAFTA that caused the loss of American jobs. The labor unions were supposed to be about fair wages, decent work hours, safe working conditions, and a decent retirement penison. Instead, they're about pushing anti-American and anti-Christian crap like the stuff mentioned previously. Is it any wonder that many people with deep religious convictions are against labour unions?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
